For decades, the unforgettable caricature of veteran comedian James Gregory has stood grinning: his shirt untucked, his arms outstretched, a carefree welcome to a down-home, hilarious comedy experience. It’s storytelling at its best. The trademark caricature is the essence of humorist James Gregory’s comedy: rib-tickling reflections on life from the front porch.
James is constantly touring. He’s on the road about three days a week, forty six weeks a year. He continues to entertain sold-out crowds in theaters and comedy clubs and remains in demand for corporate events. James has been the featured entertainer for hundreds of corporations, including the Coca Cola Company, Kimberly Clark Corporation, Hewlett Packard and Kroger. James has also been the featured speaker for events sponsored by various civic and church groups.
James is heard weekly on syndicated radio shows such as Rick and Bubba, John Boy and Billy and Bob and Tom. Combined, these shows are broadcast to people in over 220 cities nationwide. As a result, he now has a grass-roots following that numbers in the millions.
James was born in a rural area about twenty five miles east of Atlanta, GA. He got his first job at the age of twelve at a small country grocery store. By the time he was fifteen, he was working thirty-seven hours a week, as well as going to school. As an adult, James has worked for the U.S. Postal Service, the Department of Defense, and spent almost ten years as a salesman before discovering the wonderful world of stand-up comedy.
James does not “tip-toe” through life as if he’s walking on broken glass or egg shells. That style is evident on stage as well. He is not politically correct. Much of his humor is centered on brilliant observations of crazy relatives and people obsessed with the slightest change in weather conditions – now referred to as global warming. He delights in poking fun at modern sensitive parents and out-of-control environmentalists. Gregory has been quoted as saying, “If you want me to be concerned about endangered species, you need to convince me that we’re about out of chickens.”
The James Gregory show turns the clock back to a time when life was simpler; to a better time, before the death of common sense; a time when people sat on the front porch and actually talked to each other without a cell phone in their ear.
James’ success, like his comedy, is the direct result of the values he grew up with. And now, twenty something years later, it is this unique brand of humor that packs the crowds into his sold-out shows. The absence of vulgarity sets James apart and his stories are carefully crafted art. “I have lived long enough to know people, know life”, Gregory reflects. “My comedy is based on my life experiences. It’s real, it’s funny and the audience loves it. That’s why I’m still in business.”
James has been featured in publications such as Atlanta Magazine, Country America, Music City News, Laugh Track, Backstage West, Southern Living and Goodness Magazine along with major newspapers throughout the South.
He has appeared in concert with Kenny Chesney, Randy Travis, Reba McEntire, The Judds, George Jones, Ricky Skaggs and more.

Shirtless and tattooed, the Ginger Billy gives viewers a humorous look into life in rural Upstate South Carolina. And he’s doing it all on his own.
He lives between Union and Lockhart, South Carolina, with his wife and family. For years, he says, he was a respiratory therapist. But one day, after the retirement of Dale Earnheart, Jr., he thought maybe he’d make a video.
“Well, when he retired, I thought to myself, ‘man, you know what? This would be something that, uh, all rednecks would love if I talked about,’” he said. “When I saw how many views it got, I thought to myself, you know what, this might be actually pretty cool. This might be something I want to try again.”
After that, it was the men’s romper craze, so he went to JC Penny’s and bought the biggest girls’ romper he could find and did a video about that.
“I saw them city boys wearing one and I thought ‘I’m not going to let them beat me to the fashion punch’, so I got me one,” he says in the video. “Before you go judging anybody, you go get you one, cause this thing right here? It’s like the Swiss Army knife of clothing. And really, it fits your giblets down there too, if you’re a man. They’re really feeling R-rated right now."
The video has almost 840,000 views on YouTube alone. He estimates it got between 40 and 50 million views across all social media channels.
From there, he said, things just took off.
The next thing he knew he was doing stand-up. A manager signed him on and got him a gig at a casino.
“I’d never done stand-up before in my life,” he says. “So the first time I ever did stand-up, he put me out on the stage and said ‘You’ve got five minutes in front of 4,000 people – have fun.’ It was a real sink or swim situation, you know?”
After that, he started touring with Catfish Cooley and others. It was a whole new world, he said.
“Every day I wake up and I’m just like, this is absolutely amazing. I mean, I’m a dude, you know, I grew up in a little blue-collar town,” he says. You’re supposed to grow up. You go to school then you work here. I am making a very good living doing videos and acting the total jackass."
But the new life has come with some adjustments. People recognize him on the street, he said. And his life is now about making videos and planning on tour dates once Covid-19 passes instead of working to help people breathe.
For a while, he said, he was keeping his respiratory therapist job and licensing in his back pocket, just in case. But once Covid-19 hit, he had to focus entirely on comedy.
“With the restrictions and all, they said that if I was going to work, I had to shave my beard,” he says. “I make a lot more money with that beard than I do as a respiratory therapist.”
And while his new comedy career may be a surprise hit, it’s stressful, he says. Everything is dependent upon him being funny.
“It sounds cool, but it is the most stressful thing I’ve ever done in my life,” he says. “Because every day I have people walking up to me saying, ‘Man, I love you,’ which is the coolest thing in the world to me. … But the downside is that your income is based on you, that’s the thing. If I put out a video and it doesn’t get 5 million views, I think it’s a failure. Now I’m so picky at what I put out I think I hurt myself because I will work my butt off to make a video and then be like ‘That’s not good enough.’”
Regardless, the funny ideas keep coming.
“I will be sitting around and something just pops in my head. There is no rhyme or reason to it,” he says. “My brain’s just like, ‘Hey, you know what? Today, let’s do this. And it just happens.”
The only thing he won’t talk about, he says, is politics. The goal is to give people a place to breathe for a while.
“I want people to be able to come to my page and say, ‘Man, this is a break,’ Right?” he says. “Everybody, you know, I don’t care what you are. A Democrat, Republican. I don’t care. I just want people to be able to come and get a break from all the craziness going on.”

In 2018, his show stealing showcase at the prestigious Just For Laughs Comedy Festival caught the
attention of Hollywood tastemakers, but Slay’s irreverent sense of humor developed before he even
stepped on stage, through over a decade of working thankless blue collar jobs.
Long before anyone had ever even heard of Tik Tok [tiktok.com], at eighteen years old, Slay dropped out
of community college. At 19 his plans to join the army were foiled by an arrest. By 21 he moved from his
hometown of Opelika AL [tiktok.com] to Charleston SC. On the coast, Slay worked as a waiter and
pesticide salesman [dustyslay.com] for over a decade while moonlighting as an obscure, often drunk,
open mic comedian.
It wasn’t until he quit drinking in 2012 that he started to take comedy and his unique talent for telling
jokes seriously. His smooth baritone voice and relatable stories about growing up poor in a trailer park
quickly made him a local Charleston favorite. After being voted Best Local Comedian and winning the
Charleston Stand Up Comedy Competition, both two years in a row, his well-intentioned friends and
colleagues encouraged Slay to move to LA and take a shot at the big time.
While this may have been sound advice for the average aspiring artist, Dusty wanted to try to make it in
comedy on his own terms: by living the South, without getting too far away from the home that
grounded him.
Today, Slay has close to half a million Tik Tok [tiktok.com] followers, Four Late Night appearances
[youtube.com], a Comedy Central set [youtube.com] and a Netflix Half Hour Special under his belt. He
enjoys selling out comedy clubs across America on weekends, then chills out at home in Nashville,
Tennessee with his wife Hannah and daughter Daisy. He’s even a regular at the legendary Grand Ole
